Maine gubernatorial candidate Libby Mitchell has vision for state

April 21, 2010

State Senate President Libby Mitchell disagrees with naysayers who insist that Maine is in terrible shape. In fact, she said, there is much to laud, and the state is run by fiscally responsible people who care about Maine and its people.

“Revenues are beginning to creep up, higher than anyone anticipated. It does not mean we’re out of the woods. We have to do more, but we’re not going back to where we were.”

Just as importantly, she said, when the Legislature was faced with having to make more than $800 million in budget cuts in the past year, it did so in a bipartisan manner of which she is proud. And her involvement as the Senate leader in those negotiations will hold her in good stead as governor.

“I get results,” she said. “I know how to bring people to the table and compromise without giving up their principles. Maine is still in good shape.”
